Every Puppy Should Have Behavioural Dog Training

By: LA Hunter

Dogs get bad habits through lack of guidance, this can bring you a number of problems. If your dog barks all night long and keeps you tossing and turning in bed, keeps biting you, and nibbles everything in the house then you will have to invest a significant amount of time into some behavioural dog training. Dogs that bark can be really bothersome but don't loose your cool. If you shout at him, he may just try to bark louder than you. You need to know what is causing your dog to bark. Is he barking because he is frightened, bored, glad? Or is there someone out there? If you can't determine the reason for the barking, then he is doing so because he is needing attention.

This is where behavioural dog training comes in. There are lots of products offered to assist owners with dogs that bark continuously. Customized collars are available that will enable you to give the dog a tiny electric shock when he barks at nothing. This will teach your dog and discourage him from barking for no reason.

A dog that bites is perhaps one of the more serious behavioural problems, especially now that the laws are strict and any dog that bites someone will be more likely to get put down. Instructing your dog not to bite is one of the most crucial lessons that they can learn. You have to be consistent and practice a strict approach so that your dog will remember this course of his training.

When interacting with a young dog, they will instantly nip and gnaw at your hand. This is because when dogs play together, they do so using their mouths. So, when you are playing with your puppy have something for him to bite, like a rubber toy, in one hand, and keep your other hand free to show him not to bite your hands. Things like a piece of rubber or a wooden stick can be used until your dog realizes that hands are not for biting. You should repeat this procedure on a daily basis until it has the desired affect.

Behavioural dog training is basic enough for the experienced dog lover however, when it comes to beginners they might require help from an outside source. Accept help from friends and family and perhaps even enroll in a behavioural dog training class. This will assist you to interact with other people that are having the same problems with their dogs as you are with yours.

You are not the only one when it comes to having a dog with behaviour problems. Each dog will behave unpleasantly at times, it's just a question of knowing how to adequately instruct your dog.
